I like rainy days. I like just about everything about rainy days.
I like that rain cools things off. No matter how hot it is, when it rains, it gets cooler. I like that. I like opening my windows to let the cooler air in. When the windows are open, a whole different world-full of smells and sounds-opens up.
I like the smell in the air right before and when it first begins to rain. It's kind of a clean, fresh smell. I like being able to say, "it smells like rain," even if some people don't think you can smell it.
I like the sound the rain makes when it hits things. There is a different sound for each of the things it hits and even those sound different, depending on how hard it's raining: the roof, the skylight, the grass, even the little rain puddles that have accumulated. I like closing my eyes and listening to the rain come down, and hearing all the different rain sounds at the same time.
I also like the sound of walking on rain-soaked grass, a rain-wet sidewalk, and stepping in rain puddles. Sometimes I like to jump in the puddles and make a big splash.
One of the best things I like about rainy days is that they give me an excuse to stay in and be lazy. Curling up with a good book on a rainy day is one of my favorite things to do. Some rainy days I stay in and am the opposite of lazy: I clean house.
Other reasons I like rainy days: I like that rain makes the grass green and the trees and flowers grow. And I like that when it rains, I don't have to water the lawn.
Something else I like about rainy days is that they clean my car, wash dirt off other things, too, and make everything seem brighter as well as cleaner.
I like rainy days because they bring out my creativity. Sometimes when I close my eyes and listen to the rain, my mind wanders, and all kinds of neat ideas pop into my head. After it's stopped raining, there are rain drop drips all over the place, and I love finding them and taking pictures of them.
In winter, I love the forecast for precipitation, because that means if it's cold enough, it will be a snowy day, and snow is one of my all-time favorite things in the world. But I only like rain in the winter when it's cold enough to make snow. At temperatures warm enough to make ice, I don't like rain at all.
One more thing I like about rainy days: when they end. I like rainy days, but not for too many days in a row. By about the second day of rain, my mood is getting as dark and dreary as the sky outside, and I'm ready for some sunshine.
An image of a rainy day can instantly take you to the calming sounds of raindrops hitting a roof, the cozy feeling of watching rain fall from inside a house or cafe, the romantic light and silhouettes reflecting in wet city streets, or the crisp smell of the air after a passing storm.
